Buzz Legault Returns to ‘Gold Rush’ With a New Role and a New Look

Buzz Legault returned during the November 28, 2025 episode “Buzz in the Hills,” but he did not simply rejoin the situation he had left. He arrived with dental work completed, a baby on the way and a possible new position under Kevin Beets.

A return after conflict with Rick Ness

Buzz’s previous run ended after tension with Rick. Feeling demoted and losing motivation, he slept during work and was eventually told to contribute or leave. Buzz chose to walk away, leaving many viewers unsure whether he would appear on the series again.

When he returned, he explained that he did not want to go back to Rick’s operation. Stability had become more important because his family was growing. He also revealed that a trip to Mexico included having his teeth repaired, accounting for the noticeably different appearance seen in the episode.

Kevin Beets offers a foreman position

Kevin saw a way to use Buzz’s broad mechanical and operational experience. He proposed bringing him in as a foreman, while Faith Teng agreed that the crew needed someone capable of handling many different tasks.

Buzz answered with a joke about becoming a “Buzz of all trades,” but the first assignment was serious. Kevin needed a wash plant moved from the Links Cut, taken down a slope and then hauled up a 30-degree incline. The job would test both Buzz’s ability and the working relationship between the two men.

The first plan fails, but the move succeeds

The original relocation method did not work. Rather than ending the attempt, the crew developed another approach and completed the move. Kevin viewed the recovery as evidence that Buzz could fit the needs of the operation.

Before the relocation, the final stockpile produced 56.59 ounces of gold. With the plant moved, the team aimed to begin sluicing at the Pyramid cut by the end of the week and continue pursuing its 2,000-ounce target.

A different kind of comeback

Buzz’s return combined several changes at once. He was no longer trying to repair his position with Rick, his family responsibilities had increased, and Kevin was evaluating him for leadership rather than simply another crew role.

The successful plant move did not settle every question about the season, but it gave Buzz a credible first step in a new operation and turned what looked like a brief return into a possible longer-term opportunity.
